Western Arctic station data
The Western Arctic station data portal contains weather and climate observations for the northwest region of Canada (west of Hudson’s Bay and north of 58°N). The data comes from the metnorth database maintained by PCIC.
Within the Western Arctic station data portal, users can:
- Explore locations of weather stations in Northwestern Canada using an interactive map
- Filter stations based on observation date, variable, observing agency, region, and more
- Download station metadata describing location, variables, observing agency, and more
- Preview weather and climate variables for a selected station
- Download observational data in NetCDF, CSV or MS Excel format
About the data
The data available in the Western Arctic station data portal are part of a dynamic database maintained by PCIC as a cooperative effort with the partners and data networks listed below. New data are added to the database on an hourly, near real-time basis and on a semi-monthly or as-available basis, depending on the source. Climatological averages are also provided for stations with sufficient data. Efforts are underway at PCIC to improve the data quality and tracking of updates.
